Daniel Dumile, known professionally as MF DOOM or simply DOOM, was a British-American rapper, songwriter, and producer acclaimed for his complex lyrics, iconic metal mask, and enigmatic supervillain persona. Born in London and raised in Long Beach, New York, he first emerged in the late eighties with the group KMD as Zev Love X. After the group's breakup and a hiatus, Dumile reinvented himself in the late nineties as the masked MF DOOM, quickly becoming a major influence in underground and alternative hip hop. DOOM released acclaimed solo albums like Operation Doomsday and Mm..Food, and was known for inventive alter egos such as King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn. His collaboration with producer Madlib as Madvillain resulted in Madvillainy, a genre-defining record widely regarded as his best work. Later, he collaborated with Danger Mouse as Danger Doom and continued to work with other artists, including Jneiro Jarel, Bishop Nehru, and Czarface. Despite spending most of his life in the United States, he was never granted American citizenship and relocated to the UK in his final years. MF DOOM passed away in 2020 in Leeds. Remembered as one of hip hop’s most creative and elusive figures, his legacy endures through his influential music and mysterious persona.
