Stiff Little Fingers are a punk rock band from Belfast, Northern Ireland, formed in 1977 during the Troubles, which heavily influenced their music. Originally called Highway Star, they began as a schoolboy rock cover band before finding their voice in punk. They made history as the first Belfast punk band to release a record, with their single Suspect Device on their own label, Rigid Digits. Their debut album, Inflammable Material, broke ground as the first independent LP to reach the UK top 20. After an initial run of four albums, the band split in 1983 but reunited in 1987, and have continued to tour and record with various line-ups. Jake Burns has been the constant frontman, and in 2006, original bassist Ali McMordie returned to the group. Stiff Little Fingers remain known for their energetic shows and politically charged punk anthems.
