Daniel Robert Elfman, born May 29, 1953, is an American composer, singer, songwriter, and musician known for his distinctive film, television, and stage music. Rising to fame in the early 1980s as the frontman and songwriter for the band Oingo Boingo, he transitioned to film scoring in 1985 and has since created music for over 100 movies. Elfman is closely associated with director Tim Burton, contributing memorable scores to films like Batman, Edward Scissorhands, and The Nightmare Before Christmas, as well as composing for other major directors such as Sam Raimi and Gus Van Sant. His work also includes the iconic themes for The Simpsons and Desperate Housewives.
