Badfinger was a Welsh rock band formed in Swansea in 1961, known for shaping the 1970s power pop sound. Their most famous lineup featured Pete Ham, Mike Gibbins, Tom Evans, and Joey Molland. The group first recorded as the Iveys before adopting the name Badfinger, inspired by a working title for a Beatles song. Signed to Apple Records from 1968 to 1973, they released five albums and enjoyed international success with hits like Come and Get It, No Matter What, Day After Day, and Baby Blue. Their song Without You became a standard, scoring chart-topping covers by Harry Nilsson and Mariah Carey. Despite selling an estimated 14 million records, Badfinger’s career was overshadowed by legal and financial turmoil. After the collapse of Apple Records and years of ongoing disputes, tragedy struck the band with the deaths of Ham in 1975, Evans in 1983, Gibbins in 2005, and Molland in 2025, marking the end of one of pop music’s most influential yet star-crossed groups.
