Ginger Root is an American indie soul project from Huntington Beach, California, created by multi-instrumentalist Cameron Lew. Blending elements of modern soul, funk, and indie pop, Lew describes the sound as aggressive elevator soul, drawing inspiration from acts like Vulfpeck, Toro y Moi, and Yellow Magic Orchestra. While Lew writes and records Ginger Root’s music solo, the live band features longtime friends Matt Carney on drums and Dylan Hovis on bass. Ginger Root has toured with artists such as Khruangbin and Japanese Breakfast, and headed its own tours with notable support acts. Most music has been released through Acrophase Records, with the latest album, Shinbangumi, appearing on Ghostly International.
