Pearl Jam is an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990. Key figures in the early 1990s grunge movement, they are known for their powerful sound and passionate live performances. The original lineup included bassist Jeff Ament, guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, and vocalist Eddie Vedder. Over the years, several drummers have played with the band, with Matt Cameron eventually joining permanently. Keyboardist Boom Gaspar has supported the group since 2002. The band's debut album, Ten, released in 1991, became a massive commercial success and is one of rock’s best-selling albums. Their following albums, including Vs. and Vitalogy, set sales records and further cemented their reputation. Pearl Jam became known for their resistance to mainstream music industry practices, famously taking a stand against Ticketmaster in the 1990s. By 2018, they had sold over 100 million albums worldwide, placing them among the best-selling bands ever. Pearl Jam was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.
