The Cure is an influential English rock band formed in Crawley in 1976 by Robert Smith and Lol Tolhurst. Known for pioneering post-punk, new wave, and gothic rock, the band emerged with their debut album Three Imaginary Boys in 1979 before adopting a darker sound and look that helped shape the goth subculture. Key albums like Seventeen Seconds, Pornography, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, Disintegration and Wish brought them worldwide acclaim and commercial success. Robert Smith has led the group through many line-up changes, with the current members including Simon Gallup, Roger O'Donnell, Perry Bamonte, Jason Cooper and Reeves Gabrels. The Cure has released 14 studio albums, selling over 30 million records globally, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. Their 2024 album Songs of a Lost World marked a major return, achieving critical and commercial success.
