The Human League

The Human League

The Human League is a pioneering English synth-pop band from Sheffield, formed in 1977. Starting as an experimental electronic group, they achieved major international success in the early 1980s after releasing their landmark album Dare, which featured the chart-topping single Don't You Want Me. The band won the Brit Award for Best British Breakthrough Act in 1982 and went on to release a string of hits throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including Mirror Man, Fascination, The Lebanon, Human, and Tell Me When. Fronted by lead singer Philip Oakey, who has remained the group's constant member, The Human League evolved through several lineup changes, ultimately settling as a trio with Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley. With nine studio albums and over 20 million records sold worldwide, they became a key influence on the 1980s synth-pop and new wave movements and were central figures in the Second British Invasion of the US music charts.
