Zapp

Zapp, also known as the Zapp Band or Zapp and Roger, is a pioneering American funk group formed in Dayton, Ohio in 1977. Renowned for their distinctive use of the talk-box effect, they became key innovators in the electro-funk scene. The band was originally led by the Troutman brothers—Roger, Larry, Lester, and Terry—along with Sherman Fleetwood and other talented members. Early collaborations with George Clinton and Bootsy Collins helped secure their first major record deal. Zapp’s debut album in 1980 featured the hit "More Bounce to the Ounce," which brought them widespread acclaim. Their energetic sound later had a significant impact on the G-funk movement in West Coast hip-hop. After the tragic loss of Roger and Larry Troutman in 1999, Zapp disbanded, but briefly reunited in 2003 to release a final album.
