Kelis Rogers, born August 21, 1979, is an American singer-songwriter and chef known for her eclectic music style and bold persona. A graduate of New York's Fiorello H LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts, she started her career as a backing vocalist before collaborating with the Neptunes, who produced much of her early work. Her debut album, Kaleidoscope, drew on 1970s jazz and disco influences and received critical acclaim, especially in the UK. She broke through internationally with her third album, Tasty, featuring the hit single Milkshake, which reached the top three on the US charts and became a global sensation. Subsequent albums like Kelis Was Here and Flesh Tone further showcased her ability to blend genres such as R and B, dance, and electronic music. In addition to her music career, Kelis trained as a chef at Le Cordon Bleu and infused her passion for food into her work, notably with her sixth album, Food. She has collaborated across genres with artists including Nas, Busta Rhymes, Outkast, Calvin Harris, Disclosure, and Björk, and has received multiple award nominations, including Grammy recognition. Kelis has sold over six million records worldwide, achieving particular success in the United Kingdom.
