Zain Javadd "Zayn" Malik is an English singer-songwriter who first gained fame as a member of the globally successful boy band One Direction after competing on The X Factor in 2010. After leaving the group in 2015, he launched a solo career with RCA Records, embracing an alternative R and B sound. His debut album Mind of Mine and its hit single Pillowtalk made him the first British male artist to debut at number one in both the UK and US. Notable collaborations include I Don't Wanna Live Forever with Taylor Swift and Dusk Till Dawn with Sia. Zayn has since released two more albums, Icarus Falls and Nobody Is Listening, and has received several major awards, including both the American Music Award and MTV Video Music Award. He is also the only artist to win the Billboard Music Award for New Artist of the Year both as a group member and as a soloist.
